      LaVonne A. Manthe, age 75, of Neshkoro, passed away after a valiant battle with cancer on Thursday, December 28, 2006 at the Juliette Manor Nursing Home in Berlin where she was a resident for the past two weeks. She was born on April 30, 1931, on the family farm, in Windsor, WI. to George and Anna (Scheer) Knudtson. LaVonne married William Manthe on August 12, 1950 in DeForest, WI. She was a devoted homemaker throughout her life. Upon retiring to Neshkoro, they became active members of Zion Lutheran Church. She was involved with the Zion Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and Vacation Bible School. LaVonne also volunteered her time at Second Time Around Shop in Berlin. She loved to bake cookies for family and friends and was known by many as “the cookie lady.” LaVonne loved to be with her family, especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her beloved husband of 56 years, William of Neshkoro; 3 daughters, Donna (Glenn) Clayton of Naperville, IL., Debra (Jeffrey) Kappel of Cottage Grove, Mary (Neal) Krause of Berlin; 6 grandchildren, Laura (Stephen) Blacksmith and Daniel Clayton, John and Kristine Kappel, Jason (Melissa) Krause and Jacob Krause; two sisters, Arlette (Julius) Kok of Michigan, Shirley Kosikowski of Arizona; Joan, wife of brother Eugene Knudtson (deceased) of Madison; other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 1, from 3:00-6:00 p.m., at the Zion Lutheran Church, 227 North State St., in Neshkoro. A funeral service will take place on Tuesday, January 2, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church with Rev. Franklin Giebel officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Zion Lutheran Church.
